The following Local Preachers Training Course with Reverend David Day 'How to make sermons come alive for our congregations', took place on the weekend of 27 and 28 March 2009.
Roger Browning, Local Preachers' Secretary reports:
Reverend David Day presented a most interesting and challenging training course which encouraged us all to examine how to prepare and deliver the Gospel Message to the listener. There were 24 people involved in the weekend a very even number drawn from the Anglican and Methodist Churches. Reverend Day encouraged us to read the set piece of scripture and stated that before doing anything else we should try to feel what it is saying to us personally, only then can we begin to expand the sermon. He showed us how to develop the message so that the congregations could become involved and with the application of modern day incidents help those listening to understand and receive the blessings contained in God’s Holy Word.
We thanked Reverend Day and sent him away with an Easter greeting.

The Reverend David Day has been an RE teacher in Secondary Schools, a University Lecturer and most recently, Principal of St John's College, Durham.
He retired in Autumn 1999 and since then has been serving on the staff of St Nicholas Church in the Marketplace, Durham.
He has written a number of books including Pearl beyond price, the Archbishop of Canterbury's Lent Book for 2002 and Embodying the Word, and is passionately concerned about the importance of training up young Preachers.
He is married to Rosemary, with three grown up children and nine grandchildren and confesses to a totally irrational allegiance to Tottenham Hotspur!
